About Kory Preston

Kory's passion for education began as a student. While attending a small high school, he worked alongside fellow students, parents, and community members to advocate against the school's closure during a period of declining enrolment. Through that experience, he learned that schools are more than buildings; they are the heart of a community.

His commitment to public education led him to serve as Student Trustee with his local public school board, where he represented students and advocated for their interests at the board table. He later continued that work at Wilfrid Laurier University as Vice-President of the Students' Union, collaborating with governments and stakeholders to advance student priorities, including improved supports for students with disabilities, expanded financial aid opportunities, and greater access to mental health resources.

Professionally, Kory has spent more than 15 years working in public affairs, communications, government relations, and public policy. He currently serves as Senior Manager, Communications and Public Affairs, and has previously advised Ontario ministers and government leaders on policy development, stakeholder engagement, governance, and public consultation. Throughout his career, he has focused on bringing people together, building consensus, and finding practical solutions to complex challenges.

Today, Kory is seeking to serve as Trustee for Ward 3 because he believes local schools deserve strong, accountable leadership that puts students first.

Priorities

Students and staff must feel safe, respected, and supported every day.

Parents and community members deserve clear information about decisions that affect their schools.

Schools need to make better use of websites, digital tools, and community engagement to keep families informed.

Schools should not only serve current families but also provide prospective families with the information and confidence they need when deciding where to live and raise their children.

Every student should have access to the opportunities, supports, and resources they need to reach their full potential.
